Emerge Aotearoa

One of our most significant pieces of work in 2021 was delivering Building Stronger Futures – Getting it Right for Whānau, a major internal communications project for social service provider, Emerge Aotearoa.

Starting in the last half of 2020 and concluding at the end of 2021, Emerge Aotearoa undertook this large quality improvement programme to future-proof the organisation and ensure it was providing the highest quality services for its clients.

We prepared a high-level communications strategy to help support the delivery of this important mahi, as well as communication plans for each of its seven workstreams. This ensured staff understood what was expected of them and how to carry out what was required.

Our work included:

  • developing communication plans on issues as diverse as medication management, staff induction and site safety

  • creating key messages and graphics that were easy to understand and took into account varying levels of digital literacy

  • producing regular communications including newsletters and intranet articles

  • promoting training and education sessions

  • producing guides to help staff speak to auditors and stay audit-ready, and

  • delivering communications support across all workstreams.

Well-timed and strategically planned communications were essential for ensuring Emerge Aotearoa’s kaimahi were motivated to implement change and were not overwhelmed by what they needed to do. Our communications focused on the tangible benefits this work would have for the people that Emerge Aotearoa supports.

As a result of this work, an audit found that Emerge Aotearoa had no corrective actions to implement, which was an outstanding achievement. We received positive feedback from staff and successfully met all organisational and communications objectives.

In 2022, we were proud to be awarded the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) Internal Communications Bronze Award for Building Stronger Futures.
